As of 12 days ago, I discovered and started a phone otome game that has had a lot of excitement surrounding it. That game is Mystic Messenger. It looked like it could be a fun thing to do to pass the time. It looked like something that I could easily just check in on whenever I was bored. Oh boy was I wrong. I very quickly got obsessed with this little game. Today I completed my first route: Zen's route. I got the good ending, thank the lord.
For those of you who don't know or aren't sure of what exactly Mystic Messenger is, it's a dating sim app where you text, call and chat with the members of an organization called the RFA. They hold frequent charity parties and invite a whole bunch of groups, people and organizations to attend. The premise of the game that is in the description of the app is as follows:
"You stumbled upon an app called 'Mystic Messenger' and downloaded it. Once you open it up the app is connected to a mystic group chat with attractive guys. You are asked to join their secret party planning association and the story beings..."
707
Now, let's be real, the guys (and girl) are the biggest selling point for a lot of people, so I think it's important we talk about them. Let's talk about the cute red head above first, 707. Often called Seven, or sometimes called by his real name, Luciel, 707 is a hacker that works closely with V, one of the founders of RFA. He is in charge of all the confidential information in the group. 707 is meme central. He is breaks the fourth wall quite a few times, and seems to be aware of the routes the main character has been on (if you've played the game before on that account). Because of this, a reset theory sprung up in the community, and it is recommended that you play 707's route last. Since it might contain spoilers, we won't go into detail on that though.
Yoosung
Next, we have cute little Yoosung. He is the cousin of one of the other RFA founders, Rika, who is deceased. She and V were set to get married before she died. Yoosung is the gamer of the group. The most notable game that he plays daily without fail is called LoLoL, which is a play on League of Legends. He is also a 20 year old college student, but doesn't seem to concerned with his grades or studying. You also find out from Jaehee on the first day (if you asked about Yoosung) that he has changed clubs 14 times with a year. She also divulges that his relationship experience is nonexistent, and that he is innocent and tends to trust people easily, and is at times overly affectionate.
Jaehee
Unlike what the description says, there is actually one girl in the group, with her own route and everything. Her name is Jaehee Kang. Jaehee is the assistant to another member of the RFA, Jumin. She is serious and doesn't tend to joke around all too much, but she has her moments. She is glad that another woman is in the RFA for her to talk to, but it takes a long time for her to finally trust you completely. She is obsessed with the actor of the group, Zen, but it appears to only be as a fan. I have not played her route, so I can't say for certain if there's any more behind it. In Zen's route, however, she is just a super protective fangirl. She knows everything about his career and follows it closely.
Jumin
Jumin Han is the son of a wealthy family and the heir of the fictional company C&R International. Throughout the Casual Story mode of the game, he seems to be lacking emotion, except for moments later on in the routes. You get to learn a lot more about him and his character in the Deep Story, but I haven't made it to that yet, so no Jumin route for me. One of the biggest things about Jumin, that I totally relate to, is his obsession of cats. Cats are his favorite thing, especially his cat, Elizabeth the 3rd. Jumin doesn't show any interest in woman at all, and is often asked by the members of the RFA if he is gay. There is a big moment about this in Zen's route, but I won't go into detail for anyone who hasn't done that route yet.
Zen
Last, but certainly not least, is Zen. I love this boy to death, but he is a major narcissist. He talks about his looks and how handsome he is every day. He also sends the most pictures, calls you the most, and text you the most out of anybody. His family situation is terrible, so he ran away at a young age. He quickly became an actor, but a lot of people blame his success on his looks, and even he knows that they have contributed a lot. He treats you well, calls you babe a lot, and is extremely allergic to cats. He also hates relying on others, and denies help from everyone almost every single time, especially if it involves money. This is one reason why he and Jumin seem to hate each other, but that is spoilers so we won't get into it.Mystic Messenger is extremely fun. Each route takes 11 days if you don't use hourglasses to skip waiting and if you don't get bad ends, and uses real time for when chat rooms open up and you can interact with everyone. The characters are all written really well and realistically, so they are a ton of fun to interact with. I strongly recommend this game for anyone who has time to dedicate to it. As a working woman, it is hard for me to keep up all the time, but hey, that's what the hourglasses are for. So what are you waiting for? Go play it!
