So in case you didn't realize this, women are still paid less than men. Depending where you live a woman will earn 56-78 percent of what a man earns for the same job. Now that we know that women are paid less, let me tell you that they also have to pay more for the same products as men. It can be the same brand and the same product, but women will have to pay around seven percent more for the female version. The difference in these items? One is blue and the other is pink. Is the color really worth the tax? Women, on average, pay about $1,351 annually in extra costs for similar goods and services.
Mortgage
Mortgage interest rates for women are coming in 0.4 percent higher than for men. Women with credit scores and other qualifying factors similar or the same to men pay more for their mortgages.
Dry-cleaning
The average price to clean a men’s shirt was $2.06, while it was $3.95 for a woman’s shirt. This is because apparently the dry-cleaning machine doesn't fit a smaller shirt so they charge extra. Reality is that one shirt is labeled "men" and the other is labeled "women".
Deodorant
Deodorant and other personal care products are more expensive for women. Above are same brand of deodorant. One is women's and the other is men's. Not only is the men's deodorant cheaper, it also has a larger quantity. It is 2.72 ousnce while the women's is 2.62 ounces and almost four dollars more expensive. Logic anyone?
Razors
Ladies let me tell you something. The only difference between these razors are the color. One is pink and the other is blue. Now because the razor is pink you have to pay more. Buy the blue razor, it does the same job at the same quality.Hygiene
In case you haven't heard, pads and tampons are the latest luxury items for women because, of course, we don't need them right? We can control our bodies cycle and when we let ourselves menstruate. We are pretty much being taxed for being women. Every single woman born menstruates at some point in her life. We have to buy these types of products, it's not a choice. These products are necessary to continue everyday activity normally. Imagine a world with women who don't use tampons and pads. Actually, please don't imagine that. It's messy.Tax Rates
All in all women are taxed more than men for everyday items. They make less and pay more. For many items I suggest buying the men's brand, especially razors. Money adds up over time and you will save more than you think in the long run. Some products like tampons and pads are not something that you can compare to men's price because it's something just for women, but is a neccesity item that is argued to be luxury by men. This is something that needs to be changed to tax free. Period. (Pun intended).
