Okay, listen up. If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon that is the "American Horror Story" fandom, now is the time. On October 7th, the fifth season will premiere, featuring some of the same actors we’ve seen in previous seasons, as well as some new faces.
For those unaware, American Horror Story’s first season premiered in October of 2011. Each season, the show features a new story consisting of new themes, characters, and of course, new frightening ways to scare the crap out of us. The show is perfect for the Halloween season, providing us with those October nights filled with hiding under our blankets, cowering away from the television as we watch. This upcoming season is titled “Hotel” and will focus on the fictional Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles, California.
There isn’t much known just yet about this season. Many fans are skeptical, however, since the series will no longer be home to actress Jessica Lange. In past seasons, Lange has played an array of memorable characters. While the actress and her talent will be dearly missed, something or someone may make up for her absence. This season is said to feature “The Countess,” the fashionable owner of Hotel Cortez. And who is to play this character? The always entertaining: Lady Gaga.
Not much has been revealed about Gaga’s character. In the season's teaser trailer, only a glimpse of Gaga is shown, as well as some other characters. Only in recent weeks leading up to the premiere, information regarding the plot line and show has been released. With that being said, a lot of mystery is still surrounding this upcoming season.
If you were disappointed with last season’s "American Horror Story: Freak Show", co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk want to assure you that this upcoming season is to be “much darker.” In fact, in a recent interview, Murphy confessed, “it’s straight horror this year.” This seems pretty reliable considering the opening title sequence , recently released, is absolutely terrifying. The sequence doesn’t feature any of the main actors or characters, but it does set the perfect tone for the upcoming season.
If we’re being honest, I hate all things scary. Horror movies are not for me. Ghost stories? No way. But for some reason, "American Horror Story" intrigues me. Am I terrified while watching? Definitely. However, the show is just simply so interesting, deranged, twisted, and captivating that I cannot take my eyes away. So, don’t be afraid to start watching, especially beginning with this new season.
If you’re looking to get into the perfect Halloween spirit or you’re just really into anything frightening…. or disturbing, be sure to check out the season premiere of "American Horror Story: Hotel" on October 7th.
