Sometimes in life we just have to be a bit frivolous, and this week’s frivolous topic is about my favorite fruit: peaches. Peach season generally peaks in July, but can be ready as early as May or as late as September. Not only are there delicious recipes for peaches, but there are also some great sayings about peaches. I’ve chosen just a few of my favorite peach sayings and recipes that make my life quite peachy.
Sayings:
- “Sweet as a peach.”
If you’ve ever had a perfectly ripe peach, you know that this saying is quite the compliment. Similarly, “you’re a peach” can have the same meaning. - “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.” -Dita Von Teese
Peach metaphors are great, and I especially love this one that reminds us that we can’t please everyone. We should work to be the very best that we can be, but realize that there will always be someone who doesn’t like us and that’s OK. - “An apple is an excellent thing until you have tried a peach.”
As an avid fruit lover, I truly am a huge fan of apples, but nothing can beat the sweet, juicy, delectable taste of a Georgia peach.
Recipes:
- Peach Cobbler.
While I love basically anything to do with peaches, peach cobbler is my personal favorite when it comes to peach recipes. I love to make fresh peach cobbler served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious summer dessert. - Peach Ice Cream.
Cool off with some peach ice cream from your local ice cream shop or make some homemade peach ice cream for a refreshing summer treat. While I am normally not a fan of fruit chunks in my ice cream, pieces of peach in the ice cream add the perfect fruity touch and also let you know it’s not just artificial fruit flavoring. - Grilled Peaches.
While you’ve got the grill fired up for some summer barbecue meals, slice some peaches in half, spread a little bit of oil on them and throw them on the grill for a few minutes. They are delicious just like this, but if you want to add a little more flavor, sprinkle a cinnamon and sugar mixture over the halves before throwing them on the grill. As any peach dish, grilled peaches are also wonderful served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
There are many, many more delicious peach recipes (peach pie, peach tea, peach tart, etc.), but who said you had to make something with the peaches? Sometimes all you need is a fresh peach (or two) to make your day peachy. Now excuse me while I go have a slice of the freshly made peach pie in the kitchen.
