Life is notorious for changing the plot on you at the tip of a hat. Just when you think everything is falling into place, it may start to become apparent that it is, in fact, actually falling apart. If this is the case, it is crucial that you pick yourself back up because, unfortunately, life is going to keep moving whether you want it to or not. If you need some help getting your feet back on solid ground, here are 10 things I needed to hear and you might need to hear too.
1. Everything happens for a reason.
Whether you realize it now, a month from now, a year from now, or somewhere in between - everything happens for a reason. Every experience you have takes you closer to where you're supposed to be.
2. Some things are just not meant to be.
Sometimes things just don't work out and if that's the case, you can't beat yourself up over it.
3. It is okay to be upset.
Everyone is entitled to their feelings. Never let anyone make you feel like your problems are insignificant compared to your feelings. If you're upset, then by all means, be upset. Cry, yell at someone who probably doesn't deserve it, eat a whole pizza - let it out however you see fit.
4. Memories are simultaneously the best and worst thing a person can have.
Memories are a unique and special thing to have and there is no need to wish them away. However, just like everything else, moderation is key. Replaying every last detail of a situation in your head over and over isn't going to change what you did or said, its only going to make you sick.
5. You can't punish yourself for things that are out of your control.
6. Don't make irrational decisions.
When the smoke clears, you will totally and completely regret that spiteful action or hurtful comment you made and more likely than not, you won't be able to take it back. Living with regret is never easy so just take a moment and really think about what you are doing.
7. You can do this. You are strong.
It seems like the end of the world now, but it's not. Think of all the things you have accomplished and overcome. If you were able to do it before, I ensure you, you will be able to do it again.
8. You never know what can grow from here.
Maybe a new opportunity will emerge from the broken pieces of your last.
9. Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.
Be thankful for the people you have when you have them. Not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever. Some people just come to you to bring you a learning experience you may not have even known you needed.
10. Be open to all the possibilities around you.
You never know what could happen in the future, so stay positive. Today won't be as bad as yesterday, and with each day, things will get better.
