Dear Mom,

Thank you.

Thank you for introducing me to coffee, it’s the best and worst thing to ever happen to me.

Thank you for answering the phone whenever I call and letting me vent about the big things like my future and the little things like my distress after finishing a Netflix series.

Thank you for letting me travel the world, even though I know it terrifies you. I promise that I’ll be cognizant and careful.

Thank you for renting books from the library, even though it’s 2016, you’re doing a great thing for the community and continuously inspiring me to love reading.

Thank you for accepting that I’m a college student and drinking wine with me when I come home for the weekend.

Thank you for being the most patient person I’ve ever met. I don’t know how you do it, but I swear it’s a superpower.

Thank you for cooking delicious, healthy meals. I never appreciated them when I was growing up, but after eating in the dining hall for long enough, I realized that I could eat your food forever if you’d let me.

Thank you for going back to work after raising me. You showed me what true determination looks like and I’m so proud of you.

Thank you for choosing true love, I can only hope to find it some day.

Thank you for being beautiful inside and out, you actually just do it naturally, but I love bragging to my friends about how perfect and cool my mom is.

Thank you for bickering with me about the insignificant details, I know it means that you love me and care about me.

Thank you for constantly reminding me to wear sunscreen, pretty sure I’ve only ever gotten one sunburn (maybe two).

Thank you for letting me tell you about the stupid college boys I encounter without being judgmental. It’s great that we can gossip as friends would.

And on that note, thank you for being a best friend and mother at the same time. Although no amount of “thank yous” will ever be enough, here’s my attempt, because you mean the world to me.

Happy Mother’s Day!

XOXO

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
