The semester's almost over and having the holiday break to look forward makes it that much easier to push through long enough to make it to final exams. Besides the fact that you don't have to show up to classes these next couple of days, the list of reasons to look forward to this Thanksgiving break goes on and on.
1. Food that isn’t from a dining hall or in the form of potato chips in your dorm. Yes, the freshman fifteen is real and no, Thanksgiving will not help in losing the weight but the taste of stuffing, turkey, and green bean casserole on turkey day will make up for the guilt you feel when your food baby refuses to go away.
2. Seeing friends after three months of separation.
For freshmen, this is likely the first time they’ve been apart from anyone for this long and the anticipation leading up to a reunion with best friends is almost as special as spending hours catching up on one another’s college life. Being together again, even for a short while, is so worth the wait and gives you another reason to be thankful at this time of year.
3. Black Friday Shopping
Now that most your money is spent on an Uber home Saturday night and Insomnia Cookies for the ride, finding a good sale has never been so essential. Grab a few friends and make it an adventure because that's probably the only way to survive the war zone that is the mall the day after Thanksgiving.
4. Cyber Monday Sales
For those of you who cannot bear the thought of being trampled while on the hunt for a new pair of Hunter rain boots. And yes, avoiding work in order to get the best deals is a definite requirement. No one can deny the satisfaction of finding a great deal all while sitting on your couch in pajamas you decided to keep on all day.
5. Christmas is that much closer.
On the day after Thanksgiving it’s finally okay to watch Christmas movies and start putting up decorations. No need to get upset that this holiday is over because the best holiday of the year is that much closer.
6. Sleeping.
There’s nothing like the feeling of sleeping until 12 and waking up in YOUR bed. It means being surrounded by clean sheets and knowing that if you really felt like it you could just stay in bed all day with Netflix by your side. It's a known fact that no bed will ever compare to the one you have at home.
7. Not having to do laundry all alone.
This is your one week off from doing laundry, inevitably shrinking your favorite sweater and fighting to find an open machine. Pretending your still in high school and asking your mom for help with laundry is a privilege that you only have when home, so take advantage over break. All the little things she used to do for you are the hardest parts about being away, but on break you can act as though nothing has changed.
Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the lull before finals.
