"American Horror Story" is back for the fifth and arguably most confusing season. Now I know only two episodes have aired so far, but I'm here to break down what you need to know.
In general, it's a weirder, more explicit "Twilight."
I mean they're all vampires and there's some weird sort of love triangle going on so the base line is the same. Granted, that isn't the only component of the story, but it's a parallel nonetheless.
Speaking of parallels, can you say "The Shining"?! I mean the children at the end of the hotel hallway, so iconic. I'm just waiting for the episode when blood comes out of the elevator...
Also, I can't be the only one who got the Gatsby vibes when looking at the design of the hotel. It seems like this season is just pulling from all our favorite cult classics.
Evan Peters isn't the only eye candy.
I'm really not feeling the weird mustache that Evan Peters is sporting this season, but he cemented his BAE status way back in season one, so I'm willing to keep an open mind. But wow, all the shirtless men - it's washboard central, let me tell ya.
So much nudity.
Like really, so much. This season is def one I'd feel awkward watching with my mom. I'm still weirded out by all of the butt stuff that's going on. It's almost like some weird afterlife fantasy porn, but they do a flawless job of nipple censoring so I guess that makes it all okay?
I'm digging the cop vibes.
Having the detective as a main character is cool and something we haven't seen to this extent before with AHS. It gives a "Law and Order" feel and I'm totally OK with that.
It's almost too abstract.
Some of the other seasons weren't too far out and that's what scared me the most. This season, however, seems so unreal to me that it's without a doubt creepy but not at all rational. The parts that scared me the most were the realistic ones such as when John Lowe's son goes missing at a carnival when his back is turned.
Lady Gaga was a perfect pick.
She's so creepy, out there, and totally believable. Plus, with the fashion industry aspect of the show, she fits right in. I don't think there is a better choice out there for this role. I'm not sure if Ryan Murphy used her as inspiration or if things just worked out perfectly. At first I was hesitant to see how things would turn out, but the show really benefits from her presence.
