As humans, we are made to mess up, to make mistakes. We all have those moments we look back on and think to ourselves, "why the f*ck did I do that? " These kinds of situations can get even more stressful when other people remind us of those events.
But, what really gets me is when I replay these bad experiences through my head over and over. I look for every single thing that went wrong, and sometimes I really beat myself up over it. But what I've realized is that this only makes the situation worse.
We are our own worst critics. We see every single flaw in ourselves that no one else notices (or let's be honest, maybe they do.) But WHO CARES?
Everyone makes mistakes! The spotlight isn't always on us, and not many people remember your worst memories like you may think. So, instead of hiding from your faults, embrace them and take ownership! Say, "yeah, maybe I did fall down the stairs that one night I maybe had a bit too much to drink, and the guy I liked saw everything, but WHO CARES?"
The mistakes we make have one purpose: to teach us a lesson. God didn't put us on this Earth to be perfect. He didn't send His one and only son to be brutally beaten, scorned, abandoned and nailed to a cross for perfect people. He sent him to forgive the sins of imperfect people.
So, the next time you catch yourself replaying old memories you wish you could forget, sit in that thought. Recognize that it happened, and put it in perspective. After you've done this, give it to Jesus. He's not mad at you, and he's not judging you. Raise your white flag of surrender. Give it up to the King of Kings, and he will give you peace.
