It’s the little things that make people so beautiful, it really -- truly is.
Looking at the world around me and the people who pass me as I’m walking to work or through Target or even around me in class, are all so incredible. One of my favorite things to do is people watch, and another one of my favorite things to do is get to know people in a way thats deeper than what is on social media, deeper than their bios, deeper than a simple “how are you,” hearing about their past and their thoughts on life, whether they believe in a higher power and their thoughts on that, their dreams, fears, strange quirks, and my all time favorite -- being there able to watch their eyes light up when they talk about what they love. I honestly believe that every.single.person I have ever met, is captivating and so so so special and unique and beautiful. I jokingly thought about saying some more than others, but that wouldn’t be true because if you dig deep enough, there is so much beauty in everyone – just in different ways.
There are so many people I've gotten to know over the course of my 18 years, and some of the most impactful have been those often looked over by society. It’s very easy to criticize and judge people based on something insignificant. I’m beyond guilty of that, everyone has, whether they admit it or not. But honestly, I believe it is possible to love anyone for who they are, you just have to give them the chance. And I'm not talking romantically. A love for their character or their strength or their humor or intelligence…anything. I think that being willing to listen opens up countless opportunities...not only to learn about someone, but to learn about yourself. You’d be surprised at some of the things inside of you that you see in others.
Everyone I have met thus far has made a impact on my life, big or small. Looking back, even on people who I’m not too fond of, I can see glimmers of light and captivating qualities that are so wonderful. Every single person out there has a story or idea or quality about them that could inspire you, drive you, or amaze you if you just give that chance.
So I want to challenge you, this week as you are starting school or going to work or just being around friends, take 10 minutes out of your day to make a conscious effort to get to truly know someone. Ask them the questions you would normally be afraid to ask and make it your goal to know this person in ways that you don't normally get to quickly with another person. It may change your life.
