This past April, three of my friends and I packed ourselves into my PT Cruiser and drove up to Cullman, AL to see a Hawk Nelson concert on a Friday night. In the middle of the concert, there was a short sermon about the story in the bible where a few friends carry their paralyzed friend on a mat to see Jesus, then lower him through a hole in the roof to Jesus’ feet so that he can be healed. To introduce the story, the preacher began by saying, “Now, every friend group has that one Crazy Friend.” At this moment the other three heads in our row all turned and looked down the line at me. From that moment on I have been the Crazy Friend in our group. Every set of friends has one, whether the Crazy Friend themselves realizes it or not. Here’s a few characteristics Crazy Friends possess:
1. They aren’t afraid of talking to strangers, and therefore you tend to meet some pretty interesting people.
Talking to people they don’t know is no biggie, it’s actually pretty fun, and it lets you all meet people you otherwise woudn’t have. I’ve been known to ask random people walking around campus to come eat snacks with us on the quad, go up to strangers wearing Cincinnati Bengals hats and interrogate them, or even go on dates with a guy from my friend’s Tinder account. Your crazy friend has few boundaries when it comes to strangers and making new friends, but hey, the more the merrier, right?
2. They’re the resident adventure planner.
Whether it’s hitting up the farmers market followed by several thrift stores and a coffee shop, Fall Break plans, or spontaneous Insomnia Cookie runs at 1 a.m they’re likely the driving force behind these. For them, planning out activities for your squad is fun, and y’all always end up having a great time.
3. They aren’t afraid to share their opinions.
If they have something to say about a topic, everyone they’re talking to is going to know it, and they won’t stop until they’ve had the chance to fully explain their ideas. While to some this may seem pushy, they just want to make sure that they aren’t misunderstood in any way.
4. They’re very passionate.
Their opinions tend to be filled with fire, their relationships are all or nothing, etc., etc. Every aspect of their lives is filled with a passion you sometimes envy, from religion, to love, to their opinion on One Direction’s potential split up. In a society where it’s becoming trendy to be wishy-washy-go-with-the-flow, their passion is refreshing, if a bit hard to handle at times. They basically embody the saying, “If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen,” but you love them for it.
Crazy Friends are the spice of life, and your friend group. They keep the times good and the good times coming, so give your favorite crazy friend an extra hug today.
