Everybody's First Superhero

Not all superheroes wear capes.

Most children are very familiar and enthralled with the thought of superheroes and, for many children, their first experience with a real-life superhero is their dad. In the eyes of a child, a superhero is someone who is strong, kind, a protector, and can always defeat the bad guys of this world. As a small child, your father meets all of these requirements. He is bigger and stronger than you and makes you feel like no danger will ever reach you. As you continue to grow up, you realize that although your dad may not wear a cape and run around saving your city, he is still a superhero to you and always will be. In honor of father's day, here are a few ways that your father will always be your first superhero.

1. He will always be willing to help you. Whether you are learning how to pump gas for the first time, struggling through your math homework, or needing a cup of coffee on your way out the door because you are in a hurry, he will always be there to help without complaining (at least not too much anyways).

2. He will always be one of your number one fans. He will cheer you on at all sporting events, every hard test you face, and every other challenge life throws at you. He will always give you the encouragement and strength you need to keep pressing on.

3. He will never give up on you. Going along with number two, he will not give up on you or stop believing that you can do anything you set your mind to. He will always have faith in your abilities and believe in you more than you believe in yourself sometimes.

4. He will always teach you valuable life lessons. Growing up my dad taught me things that only dads can. He took me out driving for the first time, he taught me the "proper" way to keep a car clean, he taught me how to fall asleep in a recliner in .0003 seconds, and he taught me more than I could ever need to know about deer hunting. Most importantly he taught me the most important lesson of all, which is being raised and rooted in the church.

5. He teaches you true love. A dad will always be a girl's first superhero, but also her first love. He will teach her what to look for when the day comes for marriage and he will teach her how she deserves to be treated. He will be the one to one day walk her down the aisle and although he is giving her away to be loved by someone else, a girl's dad will always have a special place in her life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
