For the first time your vote counts! But, you still don’t know who to vote for. Or maybe you don’t plan to vote at all. You should still vote! Politics can be dull but they don’t have to be. You can easily keep up with politics, and even establish your own political views before the elections.
First you should watch the debates by having a viewing party. Invite some friends into your dorm or a lounge. Make sure you bring snacks and watch it with a small group so that after the debate you can discuss it.
Play Political Bingo during the Debate. Have each player make their own bingo sheet. Have each square be something that could be brought up. For example, “When Trump mentions Hillary’s emails” Or something like, “When Obamacare is mentioned”. Make sure to have a prizes too! You can mix it up by playing loser bingo as well.
Start watching satire political talk shows. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is very funny. He always starts his show talking about politics. You can also watch Full Frontal with Samantha B, The Colbert Report, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Additionally, Saturday Night Live will return October 1st. They tend to open with a political comedy skit. Last season Hillary Clinton made a guest appearance. You can even watch Donald Trump host SNL.
If you have some time in between classes check up on the news on your social media platforms, and listen to podcasts. Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump can be found on twitter and Instagram. But also follow media groups and news agencies. BuzzFeed is always coming out with hilarious gifs and memes. They also write articles about the best tweets during the debates. Huffington Post frequently writes satirical political articles. However, you should also check out sources such as CNN and Politico. Even though it might not be as entertaining, it doesn’t hurt to keep yourself in touch with the news of today.
Finally share and watch YouTube videos and comedy skits on the internet. There is a video called, “Winter is Trumping.” They paste Donald Trump’s head on Game of Thrones characters. They use his sound bites to make him seem like he is interacting with the characters. When you share posts on Facebook you encourage others to share and become engaged as well.
