Last Friday, Fox 35 host, John Brown temporary left the screen of viewers in Orlando, because he did not want to discuss another story related to the Kardashian Family. While some mega-fans may have found his rant appalling, it seemed long overdue. The news report was on Kylie naming her new pet rabbit Bruce. This topic does not even come close to seeming news worthy. If I named my pet after my father, would the news do a story on that? It just seems a tad ridiculous that this is what we as a society consider news, like Brown said "it's a non story."
Not only is this story ridiculous, but the Kardashian fame is as well. As offspring of a deceased lawyer in the OJ Simpson case (or a transsexual Olympian depending on which kids you're talking about), this is not how the Kardashian Clan acquired most of it's fame. Most of it came from Kim K's sex tape leak which then lead too many reality shows and businesses.
Are these the type of things we consider news? Not the politicians or world issues or even nice stories like Veterans returning to surprise their family. It just seems like a waste of time to discuss this one family full of unnecessary drama, especially on the news. Especially now that this nonsense has been going on for years and only seems to become more and more popular. The media is permeated with "news" stories that focus on social drama and celebrity gossip rather than hard-hitting topics that need to be addressed.
We as an audience need to demand news sources to provide the public news stories that are vital to our social, cultural, and political lives. We might not have the ability to rant on live television, but nowadays communication methods are readily available online. Still so, news casters have an ethical responsibility to provide the audience the service it advertises.
Although, John Brown did release an apologetic statement afterwords, he continues to recieve aa great deal of support about his outright intolerance for stories about The Kardashians and others of the like. I am one of those people in support. In the words of John Brown "I'm sick of this family, I can't take it anymore!"
