I have one Latin phrase for all of you: “Carpe Diem.” It’s time to get up and enjoy the shortened winter. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, so get on out there and enjoy the great outdoors!
News Flash: climate change exists, and it is not a ploy created by Democrats to scare Republicans into caring about the environment. Global climate change is a huge issue, and our lack of care for the environment is killing the planet.
Earth is slowly dying. I don’t know about you, but I certainly won't be alive to see life on earth as we know it come to end. So with that, I say relax for a brief moment, and enjoy the perks of global warming.
A few good things come out of climate change. The first is summer in the winter. I forgot what it felt like to lay down in the quad and relax in the sun. Seeing everyone do their own things with their friends was such a nice change to seeing dirty snow covering the grass. With everyone throwing around a frisbee, football, or hackey sack, it really felt like college. So, thank you, climate change, for making the weather much more bearable and for brightening up my day.
With the weather change comes a change in mood. People’s moods brighten when the weather is nice. Nice weather leads to more happiness and reduced stress. Who knows? Maybe a little more sunshine will be the differentiating factor in your professor’s mood on a grading day…
But while you’re sitting on the quad, wearing your sunglasses, playing your guitar, drinking your smoothie, are you thinking about the fact that in the foreseeable future the world will be uninhabitable for humans? The world is already uninhabitable for thousands of species, but hey, we won’t be seriously impacted for more years than I can count on my hands and feet, so what do I care? I just want to drink my smoothie in the sun.
All joking aside, climate change is a huge problem facing the earth. As much as I enjoy this beautiful weather, I want the earth to be healthy for many, many years to come. Everyone needs to step up and do their part in preserving our planet and all its beauty. Didn’t the Lorax teach you anything? “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not.” Do your part in preserving the planet. Recycling your empty bottles isn’t going to dampen your sunny afternoons on the quad…don’t worry.
Bad news: climate change will destroy life on Earth in the end. Good news: until the end, our moods will be better and our skin will be tanner!
