12 Of Life's Simple Pleasures

Life always has a way of keeping human beings stressed out. Sometimes, it's working a job you hate. Other times it's dealing with friendship drama. Regardless, they're always going to be situations that make you feel overwhelmed. This article helps with allowing us to recognize life's beauty without getting caught up in these different dilemmas.

1. Walks in the summer.

Walking with a loved one is one of the most amazing experiences. This feeling is very beautiful because it highlights how precious life is. One moment you are able to walk and the very next day there could be a chance an accident could paralyze you. I don't see this as a gloomy perspective but rather as a very realistic one. Life is extremely fragile.

2. Hot chocolate on a cold day.

This is one that is very personal to Michigan's harsh winters. Hot chocolate is something that has the power to make someone's day. It's like the feeling of relief you get when you're car door is able to open despite the ice all around it. I love hot chocolate so much that I even make it on warmer days.

3. The time you spend alone with yourself.

A lot of people dislike alone time because it leads to overthinking. However, I challenge everyone to love the time they spend with themselves. Allow yourself to truly appreciate your own company as much as you would with friends. The relationship you have with yourself is the most important one you will ever have.

4. Tracking your academic or professional progress.

People oftentimes get intimidated with new academic challenges, but we tend to forget how much progress we made thus far. Try to think back to all of those insanely hard tests and projects you completed. Remember those all-nighters you pulled despite being so exhausted. We should always celebrate our successes no matter how small or big they are. Visually seeing how many things you conquered despite not feeling you could is so great.

5. The last day of school or work.

A very fulfilling feeling in this world is being present on the last day of the semester or your very last day on the job. You may have loved that semester or enjoyed the job you had but endings will forever be bittersweet. When you're able to process your mixed feelings, so many things fall right into place.

6. Birthdays of friends and family.

One day of the year marks the birth of someone you love. It spreads so much positivity just to shower your close ones with deep love and affection. Birthday parties are great days for most people as they're able to relive some old memories and create new memories.

7. Sunsets on the beach.

Vacations always bring out the best of people due to the fun nature of sightseeing. My favorite part about vacationing is catching a remarkable sunset on the beach. No photo will capture the beauty they hold due to their immense radiance. These sunsets are great to enjoy in total silence and just simple admiration. However, the beach is usually somewhat noisy. I try to block out the noise and just focus on the sky.

8. A very productive day spent doing errands or tasks.

Productivity instantly makes people feel better because they're able to feel that their life is slowly coming together. Although it's impossible to ever have it all together, these days help bring a lot of good vibes to life. They are in no means easy to carry out. This factor allows for the day to feel so much more rewarding.

9. Attending cultural weddings.

I'm Pakistani-American, so I'm very biased but our weddings are very unique. They have multiple functions ranging from 3-10. Therefore, the fun goes on for weeks. We also get to wear a lot of our cultural clothes that I do not normally wear. I love having these two identities because I am able to partake in two different cultures every day of my life. These weddings just serve as a reminder of how lucky I am to be born into my culture.

10. Old friendship reunions.

Friendship has the power to save lives. This is not a dramatic statement but rather a hopeful one. We could not get through busy shifts without our coworkers similar to how life is hard to face without a solid support system. We're so used to having this system in place that we forget how valuable it truly is.

11. Trying new foods out.

I adore food aside from the obvious reason of needing it to survive. I love food because it allows us to respect other cultures. We have the ability to try Asian, Mexican, or Middle Eastern food almost every day due to how many restaurants are in the Metro Detroit area. I have understood the people of these cultures much better by seeing what native food they enjoy. It's so beautiful to be able to appreciate our differences.

12. Medals and trophies from childhood.

Millennials get made fun of for having participation trophies, but I never received these in my childhood. I know that sometimes the expression of receiving participation trophies is not literal, but each award I have is earned. I have accelerated reader trophies that I love to look at. These just remind me of great times.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
