To Those Who Didn’t Get Engaged This Holiday Season

Holiday engagement spam on Facebook can be a little much, so here's a little encouragement to get you through!

We all know someone that got engaged over the holiday season. If you’re like me then it seemed like every time you opened your Facebook app, there was another couple on the news feed parading their good news.

Don’t get me wrong, I have friends of mine that got engaged, and I am so happy for them. But I know I speak for many of us in that we are ready for our news feeds to quiet down and fill with videos of cute puppies again. At the same time, there are a few of us out there who are literally just waiting for our significant others to pop the question, and while we are glad that it didn’t happen over Christmas, we are more than ready for it to happen any time now!

I know it can be super frustrating to see all those pictures of rings and smiling and kissing. One day, you’re going to be able to post pictures just like that, and all of your friends can swoon (or gag) over them just as we are doing now! One day, you’ll have to patiently wait to make the announcement publicly while you get to tell all of your closest relatives.

Although you’ll be thinking how much you can’t wait to show everyone how happy you are (especially all of those haters from your past), you will be so excited to tell your family the news as well.

If you’ve sort of obsessively planned your wedding on your Pinterest like me, your head will be spinning with all of the ideas that you’ve stored for that special day. You will begin thinking about that adorable Save-The-Date photo shoot you’ll be having, and how many of your friends will be anticipating being chosen to be part of your wedding party. I’m sure it’ll be everything you’ve ever dreamed of and, maybe, even more!

Until then, take this time to celebrate wherever you are in life. Maybe you are in a happy relationship with your significant other. Maybe you’ve always imagined marrying this person. You’ve even talked about it and can’t imagine anything else. Who knows why it hasn’t happened yet, but maybe you’ll fall even more in love.

Maybe you’ll grow apart in that time, or maybe you’ll grow even closer. Don’t rush something great because great takes time.

Maybe you’re single and still waiting for fate to show its face, and so now it is your time for personal growth. Take this time to love the benefits of being single, like going out with your friends for a night on the town. You’ve got this chance to decide exactly who you want to be and what you want out of life and the relationships you have in it.

Although it may seem like those that are already engaged or married at this age have this life that is somehow better than yours, both their life and your life is as equally as amazing.

You both are experiencing life how you are supposed to. Your life is a series of moments that you either learn from or that enhance your life experience. No matter what order those moments happen, make every single one count.

You didn’t get to add that life experience onto your Facebook profile this Christmas, but you will. That day will come, and it’ll happen exactly like it’s supposed to. For now, just keep living your best life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
