As the days of August fade away, September looms with the promise of brisk air, strong coffee and warm sweaters to introduce us to the winter. And, while this is a time of year that people tend to shrug off, I think that there is a vast amount of significance to the changing of seasons.
In reflecting over photographs, and reading a lovely collection of haiku by my colleague and great friend, I noticed the many connections that my photos had with some of the haiku that I have written over the past few years. So, in an attempt to put some creativity out into the universe, I’ve decided to put together a collection with my summer memories as a way to embrace the shift that I can feel is coming.
This is part of growing up, I think, learning to reflect on the last moments with a brazen-faced hope for the future that lies ahead. While I may not be able to go on trips like I did this summer, I can always strive for the feelings that I had while I was on my journey.
adventure:
the orange sand
inside the canyons
the ocean kissed
my exposed skin
a honeymoon with myself
perspective -
storms aren't so big
when you live above the clouds
as the sun set
on my youth
all the lights turned green
you gave me wings
to take to the skies
finding myself among strangers
