Goodbye Sophomore Year

It's been quite the ride.

Goodbye Sophomore Year

I can't believe I'm almost at the end! I mean, we'll see if I survive finals week, but other than that, sophomore year is basically over. I hate to even think about the fact that I'm about to be a junior in college — one year closer to graduating. When they say that college goes by fast, I wasn't aware of quite how fast it would be. Sure, on the nights where I was in the library until 3 a.m. or where I had six projects due in a week, I thought the semester would never end. But now that the year is basically over, it's really true that it went by in the blink of an eye.

Thank you to my best friends for making the year great. I truly don't know what I would have done without you, from the late-night Ratt runs, to the frat parties, to the endless hours in the library, to the venting sessions. The list goes on and on. You honestly are a big part of the reason that I love Quinnipiac so much; my experience wouldn't have been the same without you as a part of it. Thank you for putting up with me through all of my ups and downs. I'm not entirely sure I'd still be by my side with my crazy personality, but it means the world that you still are.

I really think it's true that Quinnipiac is made for sophomore year. It's the best housing and still on Main Campus (I haven't quite come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to leave my dorm next semester at 8:55 a.m. for a 9 a.m. class and still be there on time). Most of us haven't really started our major classes, although maybe I'm not the right person to be making that comment since I took junior-level classes this semester, but oh well. I really think sophomore year might end up being the highlight of my college experience. Don't get me wrong; I'm still more than excited for what my last two years of college will have in store. But it seems hard to imagine what kinds of experiences will top some of the ones I've had as a sophomore.

So, to my fellow sophomores: it's time to say goodbye to this year and get ready for junior year. It's crazy to think that we're now going to be upperclassmen when it seems like we were just freshmen leaving home for the first time. Sophomore year has been quite the ride, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
