If you're a procrastinator and waited too long to book a flight and make reservations for a getaway, this one's for you. If you thought about going away and couldn't choose where to go so you chose nowhere instead, this one is also for you. For anyone who will be driving home instead of hopping on a flight, welcome to spring break spent at the humble abode we all know as home -- and the roller coaster of feelings that will fill your week.
1. Jealousy.
This one's a given. Unless you've been blessed to grow up in a beach town, your hometown probably doesn't compare to the joy of spending a week sunburned on the sand. So to make up for it, you'll stay inside all day watching Netflix.
2. Freedom.
No more self-pity that you aren't celebrating with your friends in Mexico. There are still the pros of not having any obligations even though you're home. Spring break bod? Nah.
3. Regret.
The only time you won't choose to distract yourself by going from social media to social media. Might want to avoid them all, just to be safe.
4. Denial.
Ah, denial. The brief happiness you feel until you start laughing and crying at the same time.
5. Excitement for the little things.
To keep busy, you might find yourself wandering around Target everyday of the week -- and each time will be just as exciting as the last.
6. Loneliness.
I know you wish you were all on a beach somewhere, but please stop listening to Adele; after a week-long separation your college friends will remember you. Right? Hello?
7. Another state of denial.
Again, denial. Eventually, you'll begin to realize that your laptop background of the beach doesn't come with warm sand or a drink in your hand.
8. Disappointment.
The disappointing fact that colleges don't have breaks the same week. When you're free 90 percent of the day, your friends from home might not be. Even your parents seem to have things to do.
9. Laziness.
Your parents might start to wonder what it is you do all day and you might not have an answer. The days start to blur together and the only thing you remember doing was making lunch. Honestly, feeling so relaxed though, don't worry, Mom.
10. Slightly bitter.
"What did you do over break?" "Why didn't you go anywh..." Your tan skin tells me you had a sunnier break than I did. Instant envy.
11. Contentment.
A Zac Brown Band song might not be able to describe your spring break (still wishin' you were knee deep in the water somewhere), but at least you squeezed in some quality bonding with your family and hometown friends. After all, you've missed them.
Happy spring break, everyone!
