Everyone has their ideal dream of what going back to school is like. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way. The following represents how we wish the college world would be, versus how reality actually plays out.
1. Move-in day
Expectation: I’ll catch an elevator and be down in two trips.
2. Sleep Schedule
Expectation: Eleven o’clock - time for bed, have to get up early in the morning. Good night, world!
Reality: It’s four in the morning, and I counted all of the sheep that I possibly could.
3. Waking up for school
Expectation: I showered before going to sleep, so I won’t need to do anything in the morning. In and out in twenty minutes.
Reality: Whaaa, why did I choose to take classes at eight? No one should every have to go through this pain
4. Naps
Expectation: I’ll just lie down for ten minutes before this class. I won’t even fall asleep.
Reality: It usually turns into this…
and you’re left in a panic like this….OH NO! I’m late for my class!
5. Working out
Expectation: I can totally run for forty minutes on this treadmill. It won’t be that bad.
Reality: Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. That moment when you can’t breath, move, or do anything makes you realize exactly how out of shape you really are.
6. Intramural sports
Expectation: We’re totally going to rock this season and make it to the championship.
Reality: What is basketball? How do you sport?
7. Homework
Expectation: I won’t get that much. I can handle it.
Reality: There’s a back side to that?! Who would ever do this to a person?
8. Reunited with friends
Expectation: Hugs, laughter, and looking forward to the new school year.
Reality: Hugs, laughter, and looking forward to the new school year. Because no matter what struggles you face when you go back to school, your friends will always be there for you to help you through it.
Yes, even though it’s stressful and can sometimes be overwhelming, there’s no place I’d rather be. College is supposed to be the best years of your life, so lets plan on making them that. Cheers to a new school year, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
