What would it like to be a boy for a day? I’m pretty sure almost every girl, if not every girl, has asked this question. The pressure of being a girl is never ending whether it is social, academic or personal.
Girls are seen as sensitive human beings who are emotional, but is that really a fair statement to make? If I was a boy for a day I would be able to prance around without having all these stereotypes that I must follow. Girls should be friendly and proper, they should be academically outstanding and they should always be happy, but no one realizes all of the things a girl would be able to different if she woke up as a boy one morning.
1. Wearing white
Every girl has that fear that 'Aunt Flow' will visit when wearing a cute pair of white pants on a summer or spring day. If I was a boy, I would be able to prance around in white pants and if I got any kind of stain. Who cares because boys will be boys, right?
2. Showing emotions
Isn’t it so cute when boys cry and are not afraid to show their emotions in public? For girls it is quite the contrary, it is for attention and she is too sensitive and emotional.
3. Job options
Society is so weird when it comes to a female working in a profession seen as masculine. But if I was a male for a day, I would do a job seen as feminine because I doubt I would receive any of the sexist comments I would get for doing something masculine as a female.
4. Getting ready in the morning
As a boy, I’d wake up in the morning, roll out of bed, and throw on whatever I want because who will ever second guess if I showered? But because I am a girl, I have to wake up, shower, do my hair and pick out an outfit for the day, which is a much longer process than a boy could probably even imagine.
5. Being a "bro"
For some reason, not every girl can be friends, but every guy seems to be friends and get a long without all of the unnecessary drama. Wear the same shirt as another girl and the world is ending, wearing the same shirt as another guy and it is so “cool” and “awesome."
There really isn’t much I would change if I was a boy for a day because everyone is assigned a biological sex when they are born and both of the sexes have unwanted burdens that the other does not. The problem with discussing the change between sexes is one does not fully understand what it is like to be another. I could not imagine being a boy for a day because I would just be trading problems because nothing easy is handed to you, especially in life.
It is important to remember that every girl thinks about what it is like to be a boy, but I am sure some boys have thought about what it is like to be a girl as well and that just proves the playing field is equal. That is why I had such a hard time even coming up with five things I would do differently, because in actuality, the stereotypes are for both boys and girls as they are forced to live by them whether it is socially, academically or personally.
