'The Drunchies,' also known as 'drunk munchies,' 'drunk food,' or 'I drank so much that I feel the need to binge eat before I pass out,' can determine whether your night was good or amazing. We all get them after a night at the bars or going out with your friends, and luckily, Eugene has some good food to fulfill those late night requests. Here is a short list of the best places to hang out at or call for delivery when you are having the drunchies:
1. The Dough Co.
You can pop into the store until midnight, but the best part is that you can order it to your place until 2 a.m. if you are craving actual food. My preference is the BBQ chicken calzone with two sides of ranch. Trust me, two sides of ranch is needed, because it is that good. If you're more of a sweet tooth person when you go out, order the delicious freshly baked chocolate cookie. If you don’t want four of the same cookies, feel free to mix and match as much as your heart desires.
2. Uly’s
You know it was a good night when you lay down to sleep with a trifecta in your stomach. Uly’s may be the best kept secret of the University of Oregon. If you don’t go to school here or are not a local, you probably would not know that this magical late night taco shack is located on 13th street from Thursday to Saturday 10 p.m. through 3 a.m. The trifecta is three mouth-watering tacos made the way you want them, and they are definitely worth the wait. It will be crowded around 2 a.m. when the bars close, but you can wait in line, watch all the freshmen walk back to the dorms, and be glad that its not you.
3. Sizzle Pie
Sizzle Pie is the new kid on the block and they are stepping it up. This pizza joint, located in downtown Eugene, isn’t really a short walk from campus, but from Sunday to Thursday they deliver until 3 a.m., and on Friday and Saturday, until 4 a.m. If you are coherent enough to create your own pie, I will recommend that because of the vast selection of toppings offered. But if you want to make it easier, go for the Ace of Spades (pepperoni for short). And for all you vegans and vegetarians out there, this is the place to call, because there are numerous pies that you will love.
4. Domino's
Now located diagonally across the street from the Jacqua is the well-known pizza place that delivers till 1 a.m. (later than others, which close at midnight). I don’t know about you, but I have had nights when I called every pizza place in Eugene and I couldn’t find one that would deliver to me that late. If you are calling before 1 a.m., Domino’s has killer deals and won’t set you back too much. Domino’s is also great if you are with a large group of people, because you can save money by ordering numerous pizzas!
5. Jimmy John's
Right on 13th and open until 3 a.m., this place has speedy delivery and great sandwiches; what could be better? Jimmy John’s is the perfect place to go after a night out if you want to get food close to the bars and don’t want to order pizza again. With a variety of sandwiches, JJ’s never disappoints. My pick would be Big John, but if you are REALLY hungry, definitely get The J.J. Gargantuan (trust me, it will sober you up).
6. Burrito Boy
24 hours and under $5, it might as well be named Drunchies Paradise. This is the perfect college student hangout spot, especially if you live close to Broadway. It does not deliver, but the convenience is still unreal. If you have already blown your money buying drinks and your piggy bank is on the thin side, go to Burrito Boy at any time and get a bean and cheese burrito with a 21 oz. coke for $4.50. Nothing beats cheap and delicious, and Burrito Boy is just that.
7. Qdoba
Thursday through Sunday, this perfectly located food spot is open until 3 a.m., which means a queso break between Taylor’s and Max’s. The queso is everything you could wish for, and with a side of chips, salsa, and maybe guacamole to kick it up a notch; this is perfect for when you are craving something to snack on. Don’t stop there, burritos or bowls are also offered, and who says you can’t have both?
