Drop Messages: The New Social Media That Is Breaking the App Store

Drop Messages is a new social media app that allows you to "drop" and find geotagged pictures from your followers, while also alerting you when your friends arrive to a place you have been. You can even link your Drop Messages account with your Instagram account, allowing easy-import of all your geotagged pictures to Drop. This awesome app gives the word “social media” a totally new meaning.

Drop Messages is also doing scavenger hunts all around the city, giving cash prizes to people who find their drops by following some clues.

I invite you to follow @dropmessagesfl and @orlandocashdrop on Drop Messages and Instagram to participate and find some #cashDROPS.

What's different?
When traveling to a new place, I always find myself looking for something fun to do, good places to eat and some local bars to check out. I have tried to search for hashtags on Instagram or look on Yelp to see what I could do and the outcome hasn't always been really helpful.

For example, the first time I went to Miami, I was at my hotel searching hashtags on Instagram (#MIAMI #MIA #MIAMINIGHTLIFE) and 40 percent of the pictures I found weren't really related to what I was looking for, and the other 60 percent of what I found was:

  • A whole lot of SPAM.
  • People selling things.
  • Weird promotions.
  • Party promoters trying to get you to sketchy places.

And when I actually found a few pictures of places that seemed cool enough, they weren’t even geotagged, and I had to call it a night.

The next day I tried Yelp and looked for bars—I actually found a lot of them! I checked the ones that were close to me, saw some reviews, and then picked one. When I got there it was really how they described it, but the only problem was that the youngest girl there was at least 44.

I truly believe that the reviews on Yelp are all experience-based, meaning that no one really talks about the atmosphere or place itself. So, I don't use it anymore.

So basically Drop Messages is a new social media that not only functions as such, but it also lets you see what is REALLY going on nearby, DISCOVER new places to go, SHARE what you are doing and what you have done, and CONNECT with friends and people near you.

There is no other app on the app store that is so user-friendly. The fact that we can drop a picture anywhere we want and let people find it, is just great.

Some of the ways you can use Drop:

  • As a fun reminder for your friends and yourself:
    • Leave a drop on the grocery store to remind you something you need to buy.
    • Leave a drop on a location you need to go so when you pass by you will be notified.
    • Leave a drop on the convenience store to remind your friends to get that thing you need.
  • Get alerts from friends:
    • Drop on the way home, and receive an alert when your friends are on their way to you so can get ready.
    • Drop on your favorite bar or restaurant and get an alert when your friends arrive.
  • Connect with people:
    • Drop on Campus to invite people to your party/event
    • Drop on Campus to show what you are up to.
    • Drop on the stadium offering your game tickets, because you won’t be able to make it.
    • Drop on that town you are visiting next week and ask for tips.
  • Share moments and places
    • Drop a picture on that new bar/restaurant.
    • Drop a picture of that special place.
    • Drop a picture of that great view.
  • Check in with a picture:
    • Check in by dropping a picture in any place you go to
  • Fun community games
    • Hide and seek.
      • Artists like Justin Timberlake and Nina Dobrev are always hiding things and posting pictures on Instagram so their followers can look for it and whoever finds it, gets to keep it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
