Upon searching for some solid mixes to kick off the summer, I came across the mixtapes put out by “Summer Breeze” on their YouTube channel. After listening to Kygo- Final Mixtape 2014- Summer Mix, I was completely hooked. Featuring Thulin’s “Dancer,” Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” and many more, this less than one hour mix screams summer. It has got throwbacks like, “No Diggity” and contemporary hits like, “Thriftshop” that are put into a light and fun summer mix that blends perfectly.
Summer Breeze music channel looks for submissions that create “music to relax to” taken from Tech and Deep House artists and DJs. Whether you are lounging on a beach or getting ready for a night out, Summer Breeze has the perfect playlist for all summer time activity.
One of the founders of the "Summer Breeze” YouTube channel, Mark Muller, explained to me that while he and his friends were studying for their finals (in the 2014 school year), they were in search of solid mixes to listen to while studying. They wanted music to relax them while studying, but also transition them into the summer season that was approaching. Once the mixes they gathered gained notoriety after the friends posted them online, they started the YouTube channel, which now has gained over 60,000 subscribers in just over a year.
“Summer Breeze” has many remixes of songs such as “Wicked Games,” ”Catch and Release,” and “Lost Frequencies,” which are fabulous and capture a true summer spirit, but I find that the real stars of this channel are the mixtapes.
Here are some of my favorites.
Kygo-Final Mixtape 2015-Summer Mix
Starting with Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire,” this mix is perfect for a sunset or evening gathering. Featuring Coldplay’s, “Midnight,” and Kygo’s own, “Firestone,” among others, this mix gives for some deep sounds and heavy lyrics that are balanced with long instrumental island sounds.
Summer Breeze Mixtape-Spring Feelings- Milo Hafliger
Featuring Mr. Probz, “Nothing Really Matters” and Tracy Chapman’s, “Ain’t no Sunshine,” this surprising mixture makes for an excellent party playlist and is easy to dance to. The remixes put all of the tracks into unimaginable recreations along with vibrant instrumentals and brings out the essence and spiritual nature of summer.
Robin Schulz- Summer Breeze- Summer Mix
Including artists from Pharrell to Stevie Wonder, all of the songs in this summertime mix have a continuous and easy going feel. With Robin Schulz’s own, “Prayer in C” featured throughout the mix, the vibe of the entire mix is high energy and very soulful.
So why are these sounds so great? It is in the title. These mixes are summer. They capture a carefree, mystic, and club like spirit. Any one of these mixes can easily transition from beach, party, hang out, and night life music. It is truly music to relax to, but to also dance and move to. Their transitions are flawless and all mixes are truly unique, embodying all aspects of summer.
You can like them on facebook, follow them on twitter, and subscribe to their YouTube channel to get amazing mixes to enhance your summer.
