A Drinking Game For Grammar Geeks

Warning: bad grammar is everywhere, so this game may or may not kill you.

Each day, we are involuntarily exposed to horrific grammar mistakes from our peers, co-workers, family and friends. While sporadic slip-ups are understandable (I guess), there are certain grammatical errors that just make us grammar freaks uncontrollably cringe in disgust and secondhand embarrassment.

Undoubtedly, the places where these unbearable mistakes are most prominent are social media sites. Often times, these blatant blunders make us want to throw our phones off the top of skyscrapers and bang our heads through concrete walls. After reading multiple posts with severe grammar offenses, many are left thinking, “I’m WAY too sober for this.” Well, think this no more. Luckily, I have created a new and official drinking game for all of my fellow grammar geek homies out there (if they're 21 or older, of course) to play as they’re scrolling through their exciting social media feeds.

What you’ll need to play:

1. A device to access your social media on.

2. Alcohol of your choice.

How to play:

1. Take a sip each time someone goes apostrophe crazy, making words possessive when they should actually be plural.

2. Take a shot when you come across the most common grammar mistake ever: the confusion between “your” and “you’re.” You’ll be repeating this rule A LOT.

3. Take another shot when you see someone who does not know the difference between “loose” and “lose.”

4. Take a sip when someone thinks “apart” means a portion of a whole, or someone thinks “a part” means to be separated.

5. Finish your drink and pour yourself a new one when someone angrily and nonsensically says, “I COULD CARE LESS!!!” (If this person really goes the extra mile and makes “care less” “careless,” you may also take a shot).

6. Take a sip if someone says “could of” instead of “could have.”

7. Take a sip each time you see a person mix up “two,” “to,” and “too.” Take two more sips if there are multiple mix-ups in one post.

8. Take a shot when “defiantly” is used in place of “definitely.” This is another one you’ll probably see a lot.

9. Take a sip each time “alot” appears on your screen.

10. Take a shot when “there,” “their,” and “they’re” are used interchangeably for some odd reason.

11. Take a sip when a post has an incredible overabundance of commas or other types of punctuation.

12. Take a shot when you see a post with absolutely no punctuation where punctuation is needed.

13. Take a sip if someone does not know the difference between "its" and "it's."

14. Chug your drink, pour yourself a new one, and drink half of the new one when you come across an error-filled five hundred word Facebook rant in relation to politics or religion. Take a shot for each grammatical error you find. Bonus shots if you strongly disagree with this person’s opinion.

15. Finish your drink and retire once you have finally seen enough bad grammar for one night.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
