After growing up in a small town in southwest Missouri and now living in a bigger city, I'm gradually realizing the things I took for granted. This list of activities are so near and dear to my heart. You city folk just wouldn't understand.

There are literally wildflowers everywhere.

The mini road trip you get to take just to go to a Sonic or Walmart

If you've lived three minutes from a Walmart, fast food restaurant, etc. your whole life, you will never know the excitement of piling your siblings and friends into the car to make a twenty-minute trek to the store for a snack.

The consistent peace and quiet

Okay, night owls, you have to get up a little earlier to appreciate this one, but it is SO worth it. Get up with the sun, go out on your porch with some hot coffee, and enjoy the morning tunes.

You can't dance around your home to your favorite music on the third floor of an apartment like you can in a single family house. It's a luxury, really. *stares off into the distance*

The sunsets are unbelievable

Let me tell ya, nothing beats a good old country sunset overlooking a huge, overgrown field. Silhouettes of maple trees and tall grass, lightning bugs, and pink and orange clouds make for a hell of a golden hour. You just don't get that in the city.

Grass. Lots of grass. And being able to walk around barefoot in that grass with no shame.

It's honestly better than burring your toes in the sand on the beach. Or at least a close second.

BONFIRES.

Nuff said.

HA. Just kidding. I do not miss this.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
