When I say this, I am not saying to take it too far. I've had times in my life where I needed to have validation from everyone that surrounded me. I fed on it like flies on sugar. While getting validation is a beautiful thing, but it shouldn't be used as a flotation device. Doubting yourself keeps you from floating too far above the clouds and where the ground is where you need to be. This is why doubting yourself can be helpful in certain situations.
Staying in your fantasy land can be a source of happiness and peace. It's okay to stay there but never get too comfortable. This is where you can make a lot of mistakes. I thought I had more money, so I went on a small shopping spree because I love retail therapy. I bought too much and it set me back on paychecks for three weeks because of bank fees. Check yourself before you break yourself.
Alastar Campbell a former spokesman said, " Self-doubt that doesn't lead to decision or action is ultimately self-defeating...whereas self-doubt that leads to resolution of the doubts can be a remarkable source of energy and creativity". This hits home because you hear that doubt is the root of all evil, but it truly helps you move forward. Why do you think the most creative of people tend to doubt their talent. It's never a good thing to doubt yourself to the point of inactivity because that is something you should go to a mental health counselor about.
When doubt leads to question, it leads to the bigger picture. Should I take this job that makes more money, but I would have to sacrifice my health for it? Doubting that opportunity would be beneficial in the end. Staying at the bottom gives you time to rise but one shouldn't be slow in that process. Doubt is good in moderation but should never lead to inactivity.
Doubt can become your greatest motivator. It motivates you to find other alternatives through the natural creativity that all humans have. Imagine that you've hurt yourself and there is every doubt in your mind that you can't get up the stairs in front of you. You are motivated to search for the elevator rather than the stairs.
My biggest message that its okay to doubt yourself, but always do it in moderation. I don't want anyone to think that self doubt to the point of inactivity is at all a good thing. You destroy the delicate bloom of creativity when you quit taking care of it. Questioning things when your gut tells you to is a beautiful thing because you realize there are always alternatives to doing things.
