Ah, spring break. What is often cherished and awaited by students is deemed to be any tourist location’s nightmare. College students will pour into a town, often drunk, and scar any locals who manage to cross paths with them. Spring break is exactly what it entails -- a break from school -- but it should not be a week that enables the student to go wild. Here are the dos and don'ts that will guarantee you to have a fun spring break without getting into trouble with the law.
Don’t leave trash behind. You are visiting another town. You should be mindful that the locals actually live there and have to pick up after anyone who leaves things behind. They take pride in the state of their city.
Do try to find local hotspots. Tourist traps are overcrowded and overpriced. You will have just as much fun, if not more, at a local joint. You’re supporting a small, local business and the food will be much better.
Don’t act a fool. Once again, you are a visitor to whatever town that you end up in. The people of that town did not sign up to deal with you.
Do keep a tab on how much you are drinking. Most spring breakers will start drinking early in the day and continue until late at night. Your body is not made to do this. If you really feel like being responsible, don’t drink. I can guarantee that the local police will love you even more.
Don’t forget that any choice has consequences. Whether they are good or bad consequences is up to you. This isn't Las Vegas and what happens will not stay.
Do respect the police. They aren't trying to infringe on your good time, they are keeping the city safe.
Don’t forget that there are also families vacationing. The beaches do not belong to you. There are others who are trying to have fun as well. These families and their children will be watching you, so set a good example.
Do put the phone away. You can check social media and what not while you are in school. How else are you going to procrastinate?
Do brush up on school if you have a little free time. I’m talking to all of you fellow nerds out there. It’s hard to get back into the mindset of school upon your return to school. You also probably have a lot of homework that’s due as soon as you start school again. Don’t wait until the Sunday before school starts back to start your assignments.
Don’t forget to visit home. If this is a possibility for you, take the time to go see your parents. They love and miss you.
Do have fun! Overall this is your break from school. Take this time to relax and regroup. Finals are approaching.
Spring break was made to be a break from the responsibilities of school. However, you do have responsibilities as a regular human being. Keep your cool and your spring break will be one for the books. Now, grab your fanny pack and go get some rays.
