Do you ever feel like you just don't know how to be a student anymore?
In between meetings, work and social events, it's easy to forget that this is a school, and you are actually a student. But don't worry, everyone. I, the epitome of studious perfection, am here to solve all of your problems. Just take a look at these dos and don'ts for being the most amazing student, ever.
DO sit near the front of the class and pay close attention to the professor.
DON'T sit in the very back to catch up on the sleep you lost from watching Netflix.
DO participate actively during discussion.
DON'T pick out someone else's comment, then repeat what they said in a different way so it seems like you contributed.
DO go to office hours whenever you can and ask your professor or TA important questions about the homework and finals.
DON'T go to their office for the first time at the end of the semester and beg them for a grade change because "you need this."
DO get a decent amount of sleep.
DON'T go to sleep two hours before class starts because you were too busy watching YouTube videos of British people trying American candies.
DO form a study group.
DON'T form a study party.
DO keep a planner.
DON'T write things on a scrap of paper that you will, inevitably, lose.
DO plan ahead for when you know you'll be busiest.
DON'T accidentally plan two parties, a concert and a work shift for the night before two papers are due.
DO set mini-deadlines for yourself.
DON'T think, "I still have two months. That's plenty of time."
DO leave your work space tidy and clutter-free.
DON'T surround yourself with papers, Wawa wrappers and HubBub coffee cups.
DO work in a quiet environment, possibly listening to light music.
DON'T listen to loud music or watch TV and claim that it helps you concentrate.
DO limit your social media use while studying.
DON'T post a #studying #collegelife selfie on Instagram when, in reality, you've spent the past half hour perfecting said selfie.
DO delete any distracting apps from your phone.
DON'T play Candy Crush and Tsum Tsum for three hours straight.
DO set small breaks for yourself to refresh.
DON'T sit and stare at the computer screen for three hours, and then realize that you don't remember anything you just read.
DO keep healthy snacks nearby as brain food.
DON'T go for a Wawa run, then browse the aisles for much longer than you intended.
DO be smart about when to go out.
DON'T go to a mixer the night before a paper is due because you told yourself that you'll only go for an hour.
Follow these tips, and you're well on your way to becoming the perfect student, just like me!
Truth be told, I did half of these don'ts while I was trying to finish this article. I still have the rest of my schoolwork to finish. I should probably get to that now, but first, anyone want to go to Wawa?
