Do's And Don'ts Of Living In A Sorority House

When living in a sorority house or, as we call it, the "srat castle," there are many rules to follow. Of course, most sororities have a set of guidelines that all members must follow within the confines of the house. (No smoking and drinking, for example). However, there are also many unspoken rules that must be obeyed. Here is the official list of do's and don'ts of living in a sorority house.

1. Do leave your door open.

It's important to leave your door open to let your sisters know you're home and available to hang out. When your door is locked, people assume you're sleeping, studying, or not home. Sisters can't stop in and say hi or hang out with you if you constantly lock your door!

2. Don't leave it unlocked.

Yes, you should always trust your sisters not to steal anything out of your room. However, there are always going to be guests of your sisters walking around the house, and you don't always know who will be there. You also probably don't want people barging in your room if you're studying or sleeping. If you're a private person, make sure you lock up your room.

3. Do socialize.

It's important to get to know your floormates. If one of the girls asks you to come out and eat pizza in the hallway, do it. You can put off that homework for a little while. Enjoy your sisters' company while you can.

4. Don't forget to study.

You're at school for one reason: to get an education. It's important to make friends and hang out with your sisters, but you need to do your work and study. Offer to have a study party, or just go to the library to escape the craziness of the house for a bit.

5. Do borrow clothes.

You have tons of closets to borrow from while living in the house. Why not use them? Your sisters aren't going to care if you borrow their clothes as long as you offer yours to them, too!

6. Don't forget to return them.

Borrow all you want, but don't forget to return the borrowed items. We all know what it's like to lend someone your favorite shirt and never get it back. It's the worst. Girls who don't return borrowed items deserve a special place in hell. So return them.

7. Do decorate your room.

What fun is moving into a new room if you don't get new decorations? Plan out how to decorate with your roommate (if you have one), and set up whatever you want. (Or just slap a few canvases on the wall and call it a day).

8. Don't go overboard.

Don't be that girl with a room straight out of Pinterest. We all aren't that crafty. We all hate you.

9. Do have dance parties in your room.

Feeling stressed? Blast some music and dance it out with your sistas. What better way to relieve stress and have a good time?

10. Don't whip too hard in the hallway.

I personally have never had a problem whipping too hard in the hallway. However, apparently girls in my sorority have firsthand experience with hitting their heads on the wall while whipping too hard. Just whip responsibly.

11. Do clean yourself.

We're girls. We're gross. However, you need to keep your room (somewhat) clean, and yourself clean.

12. Don't take too long in the bathroom.

Be considerate if you share a bathroom. You have other sisters who need to get ready just as badly as you do. Shower and then let someone else in.

13. Do love your sisters always.

Always have their back. Always support them. Always love them. Because they love you, too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
