You’re all probably curious what on earth my title has anything to do with your life. Well, I’m here to say to my little Dorothy(s). We have all felt like her once. This article is dedicated to every college freshman, future freshman, and upperclassmen that have felt or going to feel the transition from high school to college. Soon to realize we are not in “Kansas” anymore. So here are five times we’ve all felt like Dorothy.
5. Having to use the bathroom for the first time in the middle of a lecture.
We all have experienced this before. We become frantic and many decisions run through our head. Do we raise our hand? Do we hold it? Can we just get up and leave? Some of us probably have contemplated peeing on ourselves (yikes!). I’m here to say most professors do not mind for you to leave to use the restroom, as long as you do not cause a disruption. Please do us all a favor and go. No one likes the smell of pee or pre-warm seats.
4. “We had a test?” ”Yeah, it was in the syllabus.”

In high school, we were given syllabus, but they usually ended up in the trash (#SorryNotSorry). In college, the syllabus is your lifeline. Literally, it tells how to live your life. Your syllabus is your Dumbledore! Would Harry ignore Dumbledore? I don’t think so. Everyone has or is going to have a horror story about the time they forgot to check their syllabus.
3. “Why are you dressed up?"

Oh man, this is something I had to come to grasp with. In high school, many others like myself would pick their outfit out the night before. I would spend at least almost 45 minutes to an hour getting ready for school. When I came to college, I was shocked about how many no fleeky eyebrows I saw and over-sized t-shirts. Soon I learned leggings are pants, sports bras aren’t just for active wear, and high buns are really high blobs.
2. “You're going to party on a school night?!"
In high school, I was lucky if my mother let me fly out her nest and venture out. I would never dare to ask to go out on a “school night." Now that I’ve gotten to college, every day, even weekends, are a school night. So why not go out on Thursday nights (sorry, mom)? Unless you have an 8 a.m. the following day, because your night of partying will catch up with you and hit you with bad.
1. “I want to go home.”
Don’t worry, everyone has experienced this. This completely normal, I even hear some upperclassmen admit they miss home. It’s a change from coming home every day, getting home-cooked meals, and seeing your best friends anytime you want. Everyone goes through this, it’s a part of growing up.
PS: College years are the best years of your life. You meet new people and even find out who you truly are. Change is natural and a part of life! Remember Dorothy keep following the Yellow Brick Road.
