Living on campus can be stressful, hectic, and sometimes chaotic. But it can also be the best time of your college experience. It's all about what you make of it. If you go into it dreading the situation, then you probably will end up hating it, BUT if you go in with a positive attitude, then you'll love it. Either way, here's how to survive living in the dorm.
Keep it clean. Try scheduling a specific day of the week to tidy up your room or alternate cleaning with your roommate. After all, a clean space makes for a less stressful environment--exactly what you'll need your freshman year.
Keep the peace. Even if you did potluck and you and your roommate aren't the best of friends, just try to avoid any unnecessary drama. Like I said early, keep the room clean and give each other some time alone to regroup and refresh. P.S. respect each other's night schedules and don't keep him/her up super late talking on the phone or whatever it may be.
Take advantage of your meal plan. When you're living on your own, you're definitely going to wish you would've been more grateful for not having to cook every single meal. Having a meal plan is practically a godsend. Enjoy it while it lasts. And treat us upperclassmen (like your bigs and g-bigs) from time to time!
Make friends with the people on your floor. These are going to be the people that support you, make you laugh when you're homesick, give you endless refills of coffee when you're pulling all-nighters, and who you'll be making your first lasting college memories with. Make as many memories with them as possible. You'll be glad you did.
Enjoy living on campus. Once you're no longer living on campus, it's much more difficult to hang out with all of the friends you made freshman year since everybody has different schedules and are living in different places. Like I've already said, make as many memories as possible because you'll want something to look back on when you're older.
