Don't Be Afraid

It's not as scary as you think.

Don't Be Afraid

Don't be afraid to change, whether it be your outfit, your hair, or yourself. You don't have to stay the person you were when you first met somebody because you're afraid they won't like who you have become. You don't have to stay the same person your parents tried raising you to be. If you decide in the morning that you didn't like who were when you went to bed, then change. Life isn't about pleasing others; it's about being comfortable in who you are. If you're afraid that a friend or family member will no longer accept you because you have changed, then did they really care about you in the first place? Be who you are, and don't let anything keep you afraid of doing so.

Don't be afraid of adventure. Netflix is not the only thing that's amazing in this world. Don't get me wrong, I personally love binge watching Grey's Anatomy and Stranger Things, but in between seasons, getting out of the house could do some good. This generation doesn't understand the beauty this world has to offer simply because they are too lazy to go find it. However, what they don't know is that it's the easiest thing to find. Adventure and beauty is perhaps just a short walk away. An adventure doesn't have to be backpacking across Europe or taking a road trip to California. Perhaps the more simple adventures of going to Taco Bell at 12 at night with your best friends are even better than a road trip. I know that personally, taking a trip to Walmart with my best friends is my favorite type of adventure. Make memories that you can look back on and find it hard to believe that you ever did such things.

Don't be afraid of love. Fall in love a billion times over with anything you can. Fall in love with the mountains, fall in love with the smell of pine needles, fall in love with blooming flowers, fall in love with the way snowflakes fall to the ground so gracefully, or fall in love with another person. I will admit, love is terrifying. However, a secret that I found out is that when you're in it, it's the most wonderful thing. People have become so afraid of love because of the heartbreak it causes. Don't be afraid of heartbreak. This is what builds you into the person you are to become. Heartbreak is just as wonderful as love, only in a different way. It's wonderful because it tests you, and forces you to be stronger than you never thought you could be. Eventually, you will no longer be broken-hearted, but the strength that you built will always remain.

Lastly, don't be afraid to live. Stop making excuses for things you're afraid of doing. There is nothing stopping you if it's something you truly desire. Don't be afraid to do what will make you happy. If it's something you truly want, nothing can stop you from getting it. Life is beautiful, don't waste it.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
