When we were little kids, everyone could not wait to grow up. It felt like the day we would be considered an adult would never come. The day we would turn sixteen or eighteen, or graduate high school and go off to college. Or even the day we get married and have children. These are the days we wished for when we were young, and we still wish for the future now but we cherish the past.
The past will forever and always be. It cannot be changed or erased; it is engraved. Now that we are older, we would do just about anything to go back and live moments over again. So why do we wish the time by only to want it back when we get what we want? It is like we can never be satisfied no matter where we are in life.
I am not pointing fingers because I am extremely guilty of doing this as well. We all do. It is something that we do naturally as human beings but at times I wish it were not natural because while we are busy wishing for the future, we are wishing our lives away in the present. And that is sad.
Most of our lives are spent hoping, wishing, and dreaming for and about the future while the people around us are suffering from our lack of attention and focus, not only on them but ourselves as well. Over time this has worsened and I want to shed some light on this topic in hopes a little change will go a long way.
We need to start living in the moment. Look around you: take in all the people that love you, the beauty of our universe, do things to make you happy, just live. Live in the moment, every moment because one of them is going to be your last. You do not want to spend your life wishing for the things you want to do or did not do. Instead, appreciate the things you did do and are doing in that moment.
When I say this, I do not mean do not plan for the future. I am trying to tell you not to get so caught up in what the future holds that you forget the right here right now. From personal experience, in which all my articles are written, I do not want you to have to experience the same mistakes that I made. I know it is typical for us not to listen to what someone else is telling us about life because what do they know, but would they really waste their time trying to help you if it was not true?
I want you to leave my article(s) having learned something or eager to get started on betting yourself and your life. There is always room for improvement and we have to take it day by day. Today I am soaking in all the things I have done in the past and living in the moment. Currently, I am thankful for the position I have here talking to you guys, sharing my knowledge. Please learn something from me. That is all I ask when you close my article.
Just stop for a moment, close your eyes, and think about your day. Did you live every moment you had today or was it just another one in the books you will never open again? Live your life like a book you want to read over and over again. No one is interested in what your future may bring because no matter what and how many times you wish for something, you may never get it.
Be thankful. Do not wish away the precious moments that you do have.
