This weekend, my school's fall break started. I went home for a little less than twenty-four hours before returning to school excited to see my friends on break and with no cares. But to my surprise, not only did most of my friends go home as I had expected, but all of them had. We used to complain that the school forced off to get off campus for all breaks, so why the sudden rush to get off campus?
I'm told people like to go home to get work done. Personally I always get zero work done when I'm home and just become a couch potato for four days. Maybe that's why I don't understand why everyone leaves as much as they can.
I also didn't get to see family much, and a lot of people talk about finally seeing their parents and siblings and dogs again. My parents weren't around much this break, my sibling is in a different state, and I don't have a dog, so maybe that's why I don't get it.
Also, people like to see their friends when they go home. I don't know what it was about my graduating class, but if a total of maybe 6 people go back home over a break for more than two days I'd be surprised.
There's also not much to do in my hometown. We have a general store and one restaurant with a bar, but it's expensive. It's not very easy to just go bowling, or to the movies, or out to get ice cream even. Life at home is certainly more boring than life here, which is why I hate leaving so much.
I was excited to have my first chance to stay on campus over a break because I always go home because my parents only live roughly 45 minutes from my school. I finally wouldn't be bored over break (no offense to my family who struggles as much as I do to find something for us to do).
All in all fellow students, I don't quite understand why we all cheer and hurry off home for our breaks. Perhaps I just always do break wrong and there's something I should be doing that I'm not. But I like my school, so I guess I just like staying here.
