Since announcing his plans to run for the next president of the United States, Donald Trump's campaign has been surrounded by controversy. Throughout this circus he calls a campaign, he has made derogatory towards Mexicans, Muslims, and women. He has contradicted himself on many occasions, and has just about lost all trust from the Republican party, if he had any to begin with. Now at this year's Republican National Convention, Trump is surrounded with more controversy. His wife has been accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 Democratic National Convention ( Ironically enough, he even plagiarized President Obama's tweet congratulating his wife from that night as well.), and former presidential candidate and fellow Republican Ted Cruz refused to endorse him. After all of the controversy that has surrounded Trump's campaign since the beginning, you would think that this has to be one big joke. Unfortunately, this is real, too real.
Although there are still many Republicans who won't endorse him, Donald Trump seems like the only option the Republicans have as a nomination for a presidential candidate. Trump's has gained his followers by being a candidate who wasn't afraid to speak his mind and didn't care who he offended. Many of his comments have been things the other Republicans wanted to say, but they were too afraid to say it. Trump's outlandish comments throughout his presidential campaign should've disqualified his candidacy, but somehow he has been able to stay in the race. Now here we are today at the Republican National Convention with Donald Trump as the Republican nomination for President.
I don't think many people realize how serious this year's election is going to be. Donald Trump has a very legitimate chance to be our next Commander in Chief. While, in my opinion, Hillary Clinton is not a much better choice, Donald Trump in the office would be even worse. It is important that we vote in this upcoming election and not Trump America.
