On a fairly regular basis, I find people complaining about not being able to find anything "acceptable" or "professional" to wear when they go shopping.
As certain fashion trends are going out, some older ones are coming back and appeal mainly to the younger generation. This is a totally normal thing, as trends tend to circle back about every ten years.
Fashion is a form of self-expression, and in modern society, we are more accepting of people from all walks of life and enjoy seeing creativity and individuality being outwardly expressed.
More particularly, women like to express themselves while still "fitting in" with the latest trends (which makes sense since women's clothes are more expensive and wear out sooner than men's).
This becomes tricky when the current fashion trends include crop tops, tube tops, bras and bralettes as tops, leggings as pants, and increasingly shorter shorts.
Now, not everyone is triggered by the leggings-as-pants movement, but a pretty fair amount of people are pretty upset with the shortened articles of clothing that are now trending.
The only people I really see who have issues with this are mostly women who are parents of Gen X and older millennials. The only reason I feel comfortable making this assumption is the fact that the only place where I see people expressing these issues is on Facebook.
People are finally learning to be confident in their own skin and to wear what makes them feel good. The problem is that people who are so stuck in their older ways feel the need to complain about things that the majority of people love so vividly.
But here's the kicker: in almost every store where I shop that also attracts older women, the shorter shorts and cropped and trendy tops are in the Juniors' section.
My point in saying all of this is that if you don't want to purchase and wear crop tops, tube tops, and short shorts, there is literally NO ONE telling you that you have to.
Step out of the Juniors' section and into Women's to find the clothes you're comfortable with, but don't make us feel bad for wearing what we feel pretty in.
