Don't Let Boys Be Mean To You

I think Kendall Jenner said it best when she said, "Do your squats, eat your vegetables, wear red lipstick, and don't let boys be mean to you."

I don't know what it is about this generation, but it seems like boys have decided to stop being men. All boys should be aspiring to become men, but instead there are a lot of "man-child"s running around breaking hearts, masquerading as men with none of the character to back it up.

I am fed up with the "boy drama" that grown women put up with. I'm tired of my friends getting their hearts broken again and again by boys who don't even give them the respect of grieving a failed relationship because they'll be the first to tell you, "Well, we were never dating..Actually, we weren't even 'talking' officially."

Oh, well I'm glad that's cleared up because that's exactly the problem! This "not dating" or "talking" limbo that so many young adults are settling for is not okay.

I was one of those girls once. I played the game. Don't let the boy think you like him too much. If you do like him, make sure he doesn't think it's too serious. Don't text him too quickly. Don't tell him when something he does bothers you. Don't say other girls talking to him bothers you. Be cool and casual because that's all these boys can handle.

I'm sorry, what? This is love and hearts and human emotions. So why is everyone so afraid of them? Why are girls feeling foolish for caring? Heaven forbid people love someone other than themselves. And I'm sorry, guys, but what is so terrifying about a girl caring about you? And ladies, when did we forget that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14)? Is this really what you think God has planned for you?

When did people's emotions become games? And when did we start mistaking it for love?

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Corinthians13: 4-7)

This is what God calls love. Notice it doesn't say "Love is texting him every other day so he has space. Love is seeing other people and being 'open minded'. Love is letting one person control the other." BECAUSE THAT IS NOT LOVE.

Humans aren't perfect, and even the "perfect" guy will have his flaws. You'll yell at him, and he'll get mad at you, but if your relationship doesn't even begin to look like God's idea of love then get out now. If you can't even call it a relationship or say what you're thinking without "scaring him off" then why are you settling? You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

SO STOP LETTING BOYS BE MEAN TO YOU!

Seriously, you're so beautiful and smart and creative, and you just plain deserve better.

And to the men out there who are being MEN. Thank you! I know you do exist and I sincerely hope you stop being a "rare breed" because this world needs more men stepping up to be men.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
