I can't tell you how many times I have heard girls say the words "he stole my heart." Yeah, it sounds cute and everything, but it's not a phrase that should just be thrown around casually. I mean, I think it's great that you're in love, but there's a difference between being in love and stealing someone's heart. It may not seem like such a big deal, but giving your heart to someone is a huge deal.
Your heart is the most valuable possession you have. It needs to be protected and treated like the special thing that it is. And no one can protect your heart except yourself. You can't put your heart in someone else's hands and trust them to take care of it the way you can, or the way the Lord can. Because honestly, He is the only one who can truly satisfy the needs of our hearts, and fill them with overwhelming love. No other person in this world will be able to do that for you. I don't care how cute he is, or how sweet he is, or how much you love him, he can't give you the kind of love we all need most.
That's where God comes in. He lives in our hearts and is worthy of our trust. Because He is the only one who will never disappoint us. Sometimes it may seem like He's disappointing us, but He's not. Even when everything seems to be going wrong in life, it all has a purpose, and He knows that. He's not trying to make us fail, He's trying to make us stronger. He knows what He's doing. He knows us. He knows our hearts.
If you've been hanging around in church for a while, you've probably heard the phrase "guard your heart" more than once. It's something Christians love to say, even when we don't really understand what it means. Sure, we get it on the surface level, but when it's time to actually put it into action, we do exactly the opposite. We give our hearts to people who don't deserve them. We let people steal our hearts.
To truly guard your heart, it's essential to always be cautious. Be careful about the people you let into your life. This is tricky, though. Because we can't be too careful or we'll shut everyone out. And that's no good either. We have to let some people in. We just have to pick the right people.
So girls, someday, you will find the man you will marry. And it's okay to give him a piece of your heart. It's okay to open up to him and love him. But until you meet that man, never stop protecting your heart. It truly is a treasure, and it should not be stolen by anyone who does not deserve it. A lot of us have made this mistake, and it's extremely sad. Your heart is something that should be given, not stolen. Save your heart for someone who really deserves to know it. And most importantly, give your heart to Jesus. Give your whole heart to Him, and you will never have to worry about it breaking.
