Lately, Troy University's students have been taking out their frustrations on the parking situation in ways that make someone who doesn't go to the university think that they hate their school. I will admit that I have had problems with parking, and it is really upsetting that our higher-ups won't listen to our SGA president's pleas for more parking. But these outbursts of hatred are unacceptable. So this article is for you who have decided to hate my university. I'm here to set the record straight and bring Troy's name back to what it was before this whole parking issue.
Here we go.
As a freshman it was scary coming to what I thought was a big university. Troy is small compared to, say, Auburn or Alabama, but to this small-town girl, Troy was a new, big life step into my future, and I wasn't sure if I was ready.
In high school, I was in band, and we were always invited to come for Troy University Band Day. It was amazing and always fun to come to a big university! Sophomores, juniors, and seniors, I can hear you all groaning in anguish right now. It's upon us.
Freshmen, this is just one of the few days out of the school year that our campus is overrun with high schoolers and middle schoolers. They will be everywhere and you will find it annoying. I promise.
I have a question for you. Do you know why you find this annoying? Hmmm?
It's because these children are on your campus. It's your school! How dare they come here disrupting your time in TC trying to get Chick-Fil-A or Einstein Bros.? They flood the pizza line at Saga and make it even more difficult when it's Fried Chicken Day.
There's something else I would like to point out. I don't know if you have noticed past all the construction, but our campus is gorgeous. I mean wonderfully and amazingly beautiful. Auburn and Alabama collectively won't ever hold a candle to us in this area -- I don't care what anyone says. If you think that the only thing about our campus that is beautiful is the quad, you might need to reevaluate that statement. Here, watch this video and see just how beautiful our campus is as a whole.
I warn you, though.
You will get goosebumps.

I just watched this video for the fifth time, and I fell in love again with my university for what it offers, instead of hating it for what it doesn't offer. We have amazing teachers and a wonderful university spirit. If you have ever been to a Troy football game, this love is something that creeps up on you.
Let me set the scene for you:
As the band starts playing the opener, a feeling of overwhelming measures starts in your feet and legs. You start to smile and cheer for the band and all that they accomplish because, you know, they are the best in the nation. As half of them run down the stairs to get to the field in time, this feeling rises into your stomach and up to your chest. You have butterflies because the music of your university affects you in a way that makes you feel like you can conquer the world. The band starts to transform on the field into the letters T, R, O, Y. Those four letters send you roaring with the rest of the student body and alumni across the stadium because this feeling you have that has risen to your head is belief. You believe in your school, your academics, your football team, and everything else Troy has to offer you.
Do you remember the love you once had for your school?
Don't let it fade just because of a parking issue. Treat this like a relationship and love your school despite its flaws. It has given you a lot and just wants your respect, because truthfully that's what Troy University deserves.
Respect, loyalty, love, belief, and trust.
