Most of the conversations I have with people circulate around the topic of love. I hear every possible opinion on the word love. I hear that people believe wholeheartedly in love at first sight, that love is an absolute myth, or that love happens for you at the right moment. My generation sits on a fine double edged sword. I have met people that are hopeless romantics and other people that rebel love as if it's the plague.
I honestly feel like this generation is guilty of pretending that emotions are nonexistent. That being emotionless is the only way to live life. That being emotionless prevents any future pain. I believe people are shutting down one of the most unique sensations about being alive, and I just wanted to remind them to open their hearts just one more time.
Having emotions is what makes us human. Emotions play on our personalities, they go hand-in-hand. In some ways it makes sense to be numb, to not feel anything because pain is immediately avoided that way. But that pain is just stored. That pain doesn't get analyzed and felt so that you can learn how to properly avoid it if it does happen again in the future. That pain will only build and grow on the cold heart that you portray to the world. You have to feel emotions. You have to feel to understand a situation correctly. You have to feel so that you can learn.
Love can go past the common identity of two people infatuated with each other. Love can be an act of generosity to someone that is less fortunate than you. Love can be an act of service that you do for someone in your life that needs your help. Love is limitless, vast, and untamed. When your heart turns cold and rejects emotion, you are turning away from other opportunities to show love. You are categorizing your pain so that one rough experience with love now ruins any other chances to recover that one misconception of love.
I understand that it's scary. Love is a challenge that fights to change your heart and to open your mind. Love demands to be felt. I want to see more people embracing emotions. I want to see less people numb. Don't sit on the sidelines of your own life. Don't let your life slip away, experience and feel it instead. Just don't forget how to love.
