I Don't Belong In The Kitchen

I, and all women, can do anything you can do.

This is 21st century America. I'll never understand why people think it is still acceptable to undermine a woman's ability to be equal or superior to a man. To the men who think women belong in the kitchen, I'd like to flip you the bird but I won't because that makes me just as ignorant as you. Instead I will show you that I can do anything you can do and more. Although it may seem I am putting down the male population, I'm only trying to prove that we're on the same playing field.

It's modern America, where women have long since gained their right to vote and a place in society. Why do some things feel like they haven't changed? Women may work the same jobs that men do but get paid less and to worsen the blow, we get put down for doing the same jobs as men.

I'm a millennial young woman trying to earn my place in this world. Nothing comes free and I don't expect it to. But don't you dare tell me I belong in the kitchen unless the kitchen is a code name for an airport tarmac.

I've gone my whole life being told I couldn't do things because I was a girl. That ends now, with me. No woman, no girl in this world should be looked down upon because she was simply born a girl.

For all those whose mothers work day and night to keep food on the table, keep in mind that you wouldn't tell your mother she belongs in the kitchen instead of working. Women all over the world work tirelessly to prove they can do anything. We are more than housewives, baby factories, a pretty face and a nice ass. We're human and we have dreams.

"Anything you can do I can do better; I can do anything better than you" - Annie Get Your Gun.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
