We all know the negative stereotypes that surround art majors and art schools in general. Unfortunately many of them are very true depictions of my classmates. Here are some of the worst stereotypes I have witnessed with my own two eyes. Please do not be "that" art student.
1. The "OMG you haven't seen/heard of [insert movie or artist here]?!?!" art student.
- Memorizing trivia doesn't make you a better artist than me.
2. The wannabe "pro" art student
- I really don't want to hear about how many commissions you've gotten from some business that your mom probably knows the owner of.... like nobody asked...
3.The stanky art student.
- I don't care if it's finals, or whatever, but if you have 15 minutes to go get a damn Honey Bun then you have time to shower onceevery 36 hours.
4. The dark roots teal hair art student.
- At least pick a more original color or try to keep it up.
5. The "insta-famous" art student.
- You don't have to be obnoxious about the fact that a picture of your kale smoothie gets 10k likes on Instagram.
6. The "vape" pen art student.
- I know it must be hard going through life with ladies throwing themselves at you all the time but try not to blow your freaking "cloud" in my face.
7. The "nude photo shoots only" art students.
- It's hardly provocative when a picture of a white boob in the forest is featured in every single critique. Also please stop with the black and white high contrast "body study" nude photos it's been done well and it's been done poorly but either way it's been done to death.
8. The "I'm smarter than the professor" art student.
- Please don't argue with the professor during critique.
9. The barefoot art student.
- Foot fungus doesn't make you more connected with the earth.
10. The unrealistic art student.
- Being an art professional in this day and age involves making art for a clients needs and not necessarily what the artist wants to make. No one (except your mom) is gonna buy your weird art.
