Pathetic.
Defined as "arousing pity, especially through vulnerability or sadness."
To many, it never seems like quite that bad of a word. Being called pathetic by another person, however, is of the worst things you can hear. Pathetic means you are as non-existent as the air around us. Neither good nor bad. You aren't hated based on the actions you made, but you aren't loved either. You are just looked down upon, out of pity, in a sad, sort of humorous way. One may even feel worthless. Maybe you drunk called your ex when she was clearly dating someone else. Maybe you blamed your mistakes on someone who didn't even have a part in them. Worst of all, maybe you just did nothing when you had the chance to claim your opportunity.
No one wants to be pathetic.
And guess what? You don't have to be.
Start with the current situation. Face the facts and look at what has happened. Perhaps what you have done was pathetic. Maybe, at that exact moment, you were being pathetic. Look at what caused it, why it was caused, and most importantly, why it dragged on for so long. That is the worst part, dragging it on.
Do you like that feeling? Of course you don't. You are feeling like THAT guy. The one that is the bad example in people's sentences. The one that everyone hopes to not be, but you just so happen to fall into that target.
Now take a step back. Look at all the pain, the embarrassment, and the shame, and realize that you don't want that. You are disgusted by that. You want to change that.
Now that you have realized how bad it has gotten, you can undoubtedly change it.
- Accept your weakness, and turn them into strengths.
- Move on from past relationships if they went rotten. They are bitter and sour, there is no sweetness left. Look for a new low-hanging fruit to grab.
- Forgive yourself; you are the only person in this world that you have just for yourself.
- Don't worry about what others think about you, because at the end of the day, they are them and you are you. Nothing less, nothing more.
- Don't be afraid to do something stupid, so long as you don't regret it.
Being pathetic is a mindset, and therefore, you don't have to be pathetic. As Albert Einstein said, "Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character." In other words, if you are feeling pathetic, then you will be pathetic. So don't be pathetic.
No matter how many steps you may have taken backwards, if the next step is a step forward, then the steps behind you don't matter.
