There are people in life who know exactly what it is that they want to do and how to get there; and then there are people like me who don't have the slightest clue and who are just going with the motions. I have changed my major more times than I would like to admit and honestly I am still not satisfied. There are tons of people out there who choose a major or career path in order to please family members or others rather than to please themselves. These individuals would rather live unhappily than to let the ones they love down, and honestly that is not okay.
I get it, letting someone that you love down is really rough, but is it worth your happiness? If your answer is yes then by all means chase somebody else's dream instead of your own. If you are not okay with that then what are you waiting for? No matter what your true passion in life is, don't let anyone tell you that you aren't capable of achieving it. Yes, there will be plenty of times where you might feel that what you're doing is crazy and you may begin to have doubts, all of which is normal.
If you feel that you are truly passionate about something then don't give up no matter what obstacles get thrown in your way. My advice to you would be to take any opportunity to get your foot in the door, even if its not the position that you want. No matter what it is, as long as you network and keep working hard then you will eventually get to where you want to be. Remember folks, slow and steady wins the race. Do not rush to try and make things happen and then get frustrated when it doesn't happen right away. Practice makes perfect. Take time to perfect your craft whether its writing, music, art, etc.
As Walt Disney once said "If you can dream it, you can do it," No dream is too far fetched! A little faith and hard work will go a long way. Believe in yourself and then watch all of the magic happen. Again, it might not be easy. You might make a bunch of mistakes along the way, but don't get discouraged. If you are still worried about letting others down, they will come around when they see how truly passionate you are. You only have one life to live, so make yours count. Write that novel, change your major or career, audition for roles, do whatever your heart desires! Take that leap of faith and start your journey to happiness, you will thank yourself later.
