Seasons Come And Go; Especially If You Live In Missouri

There never seems to be a definite season in the state of Missouri, or in the entire mid-west as a matter of fact.

While some complaint about missing the summer in the wintertime or wanting blossoming flowers in June, there never seems to be a "season" in the Midwest. If we're getting down to specifics, Missouri is the best at changing weather patterns left and right. Having lived in Missouri for 19 years now, I have seen some crazy weather happen here.

I am from Kansas City, Missouri-NOT Kansas-and have lived here for my whole life. The Season's here used to be on their own regular scheduled program times on a typical 12-month calendar. Times have changed. Being in what should be winter: cold temperatures, snow, and ice, staying inside by a fire and all the winter festivities, feels like springtime. Take it there have been some severe cold days and a few with snow...but it lasted three days.

I can remember in 2012, (when everyone thought the world was ending) my city got nearly a foot of snow. This snow lasted about a week or so since there were cold temperatures and it was amazing. Today, there is no snow on the ground. The temperatures. start low in the morning then gradually rise up to be between 40-60 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not sure about you, but I don't want to wear shorts in the wintertime. I want to pull out my flannel shirts and warm layers and go ice skating.

I am one who enjoys a nice sunny day in the summer where I can go swimming, hang out with friends and call it a day. This past summer though, it felt different. There were some days that would be a nice 75 and then there were some that were 94 degrees. As much as I dreaded to go outside, I needed my vitamin D for the day since I had been inside all day. Let me tell you, one foot out the door and I felt the heat of 1000 suns hit my face. It was 95 degrees outside and a heat index of 109, needless to say, I went back inside very quickly.

I have gotten used to the weather patterns and can usually tell from the forecast to decide if I need a jacket or not. I like Missouri and all but it would be nice to know when the seasons have arrived. I can guess that the groundhog will see his shadow in February and there will be snow in April. I am excited to see what the weather will be for the next few weeks, who knows what it could be. Hot? Cold? Maybe a wintery mix? Let's see what Missouri has in store for us all.

Whether we end up getting snow on roads or rays of sunshine, I hope everyone drives safely. Have a good week everyone.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
