One cannot turn on the television, radio, or open up a social media app without seeing his name: Donald Trump. If you keep up with politics, you might have seen 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney take his stance against "The Donald" this last week. He explained why America should not keep supporting this man, and made a very valid point in my opinion. It was a simple question: "Now, imagine your children and your grandchildren acting the way he does. Will you welcome that"?
If you have watched any debates or interviews with Trump, you'll have seen him calling opponents names like "Lying Ted" and "Little Marco," You have heard him making claims about Mexico sending their "drugs, crime, and rapist," and don't forget the derogatory comments about women or his actions of making fun of someone with a disability. So imagine your child or grandchild or even younger siblings making these comments about a peer or classmate. Could you imagine encouraging this behavior? Would you support this?
Many Trump supporters will argue that he's the only candidate that will say what's on his mind and that's why he should be our president. With which I agree. He says exactly what he is thinking, but is that OK? Every adult has had a moment where kids say exactly what is on their mind and causes the adult humiliation. For example, you're walking down the grocery aisle and a child says "why is that person fat?" immediately the guardian's face flushes, and we say "don't say that, that's mean." We do not allow this behavior because it's hurtful but most importantly, inappropriate. We should always encourage honesty, but we should always discourage hostility. Yet, hostility seems to be Donald's middle name (judging by every debate thus far).
Trump will be nothing but inappropriate and hostile, and in charge of America. That is a scary thought. Could you imagine him interacting with political figures across the world and losing his temper or making an out-of-line comment? As much as we want to pretend America is number one and always will be, it is not the truth; countries and leaders all over are progressing. Having a president as inappropriate and derogatory as Trump will not result in progression for America. It is a genuine concern for many and it should be a genuine concern for you too. I encourage you to vote, let your opinion be heard, and remember that this is for our country and the future of America.
