Taste of Country

Dolly Parton, also known as the queen of country music stopped by Tulsa, Oklahoma, for her Pure & Simple Tour 2016. If you love country music, then you have got to see this lady! Talk about an amazing show! I am so glad I got to see her perform. She is so down to earth, soulful, funny and all around amazing! So, time to start talking about the show!

When Dolly Parton -- the Dolly Parton -- walked out on the stage the crowd went crazy! She opened her show with her song "Train, Train" which is featured on her album "The Grass Is Blue." This song is so fun and energetic! Just like her! She sang many of her greatest hits such as "Jolene." She also sang some songs from her new album called "Pure & Simple" which was just released last week! What I really enjoyed about the show was that it wasn't a crazy, loud concert. It was very laid back, not too loud and friendly. Kudos to Dolly and her team for doing that!

In between songs, she would chat, tell a joke or tell a story. I loved this because it kept the audience engaged and also showed us her fun, loving, smart personality. She talked about her parents, childhood memories and also her journey of her career. Every song she sang had a story and I adore that! For example, before she sang "Smoky Mountain Memories," she talked about how she wrote that song when she was in Nashville starting out her career. She said how she would just start to write if she was homesick. She wrote a letter to her parents at that time, which she shared at her show. That letter was so sweet and inspiring. It truly shows how dedicated she was to get herself out there somehow and someway. She of course sang "9 to 5," "Coat of Many Colors," "Islands in the Stream" and much more!

Now, let's just talk about her outfit because it was gorgeous! Knowing Dolly, she loves herself some rhinestones. The dress she had on was covered in them! She was all glitz and glam. That wasn't a surprise for me, but I just loved her dress and heels so much! What girl wouldn't? Right? Also, all of her instruments had rhinestones on them! When I tried to get a picture of her my camera wouldn't focus in on her because she was shining so brightly! She looked like an angel! She mentioned how she "never leaves a rhinestone unturned." The crowd had a great giggle out of that! She also made some funny jokes about running for president, her parents and her figure! She had the crowd right in the palm of her hand and I loved that!

One thing I remember that she mentioned was to never be ashamed of where you come from and to be who you are. That really spoke to me and I know it spoke to others in the audience as well. She closed her show with "I Will Always Love You" and "Hello God." In my opinion, it was a perfect way to end the show! I hope she comes back to Tulsa again! I encourage you all to see her live sometime because it is truly a fun time!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
