Everyone knows that old saying about dogs being man’s best friend (and we all know that it’s 100 percent true), but have you ever stopped to think about why? Dogs are the best. I mean, sometimes I prefer the company of my dog to the company of other people. Sometimes, I think that life would just be easier if I just got a dog and continued living the single life. So, here are just a few reasons that having a dog is better than having a boyfriend.
They’ll love you unconditionally forever.
Dogs are such innocent little creatures and all they want is love and affection. Hell, even when you do crappy things to your dog (like forgetting to buy them more treats) they’ll still love you. There’s no such thing as a bad dog, only poor training.
They're always loyal.
There are tons of articles online about dogs staying loyal to their owners even after the owner has passed away. For example, Hachikō was an Akita who greeted his owner at the train station at the end of every work day. One day his owner did not come back to the station because he had passed away, but for the next nine years, nine months, and 15 days Hachikō arrived at the train station when the train was arriving and waited for his master.
It’s impossible to fight with them.
Try to have a fight with your dog. I dare you. It’s literally impossible. They’ll probably just get bored of listening and go take a nap. Which, oddly enough, is also a reaction that your boyfriend might have. But boyfriends are definitely easier to pick a fight with considering the fact that they sometimes say stupid things without thinking or don’t pay attention when you’re talking.
They don’t care if you haven’t shaved in ages.
Dogs are covered in fur. They literally could not care less about whether or not you’ve shaved your legs this week. They wouldn’t even care if you’d never shaved ever. All they care about it whether you’re nice to them or not. Boyfriends, on the other hand, are not as easygoing. I’ve had tons of people tell me that their boyfriends comment on their hair until they take care of it.
They won’t send you mixed messages.
One of the best things about dogs is that they either like you or they don’t. But, if your dog doesn’t like someone you should be wary because they can usually tell a good person from a not-so-good person. Everything is pretty black or white when it comes to dealing with dogs. They either like something or they hate it. People’s opinions are always changing which makes them more difficult to deal with sometimes.
Other advantages of having a dog include motivation to exercise because they need to go on walks and the fact that dogs are basically an alarm system because any strange noises will put them on alert. Now, there’s no reason you can’t have a dog and a boyfriend, but if you’ve got to pick just one then always choose the dog.
